The accuser, Denis Cebotari from the Chisinau City Prosecutor's Office, appealed to the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ) after the Chisinau Court of Appeal did not consider it appropriate to annul the finding issued by the National Integrity Authority (ANI) concerning him. A request to this effect was submitted by the prosecutor last week. The integrity inspectors detected a discrepancy between revenues and expenses of almost 600 thousand lei during the years 2012-2021. The checks were initiated following the publication on the anticorruption.md portal of the investigation "Poor" prosecutors with apartments, houses, and tens of thousands of euros donated by parents and relatives, which revealed that every fourth prosecutor in the Republic of Moldova benefited from donations from parents, in-laws, brothers, sisters, or other close relatives. Reporters found that no fewer than 170 state prosecutors out of nearly 700 indicated in the wealth documents submitted to the National Integrity Authority that they received generous gifts - houses, apartments, land, or tens of thousands of euros. Among them, the accuser Denis Cebotari was donated a building of over 124 square meters.

Following the checks, the integrity inspector found a difference between income and expenses of 577,657 lei during the years 2012-2021.

In the explanations provided to ANI, the prosecutor expressed dissatisfaction with the way in which the calculations were made, which he considers incorrect. The prosecutor explained that he received 800,000 lei from his parents to buy his apartment, 30,000 euros were given to him as monetary gifts at the wedding, and another 7,000 euros - at the birth of the child.

The prosecutor concluded his explanations by expressing regret for the activity of ANI.

"It's laughable, but especially sad, how incompetently an institution like ANI operates," Cebotari said.
