The National Integrity Authority (ANI) took note following an investigation carried out by the Center for Investigative Journalism, which revealed  that the head of the Chisinau Prosecutor's Office based in Ciocana , Igor Popa, lives in a luxury apartment in central Chisinau, which is not included in the declaration of assets and interests of the official, as well as other goods which he owns. The control was initiated in the first phase following the notification of the president of ANI Rodica Antoci.

Contacted by the reporters of the Anticoruptie.md portal, the press officer of ANI Maria Chitoroaga said that ANI received two other notifications later. "A control was initiated regarding the prosecutor Igor Popa, as a result of a notification filed by the president of the National Integrity Authority Rodica Antoci based on an article in the media. Subsequently, a notification of the General Prosecutor Alexandr Stoianoglo was also annexed to this control. In the third phase, a request came from the deputy of the PAS faction Veronica Roșca, but it was sent in a form that contradicts the new Administrative Code. Respectively, the deputy was to send a notification in line with the provisions of the new Code ", said Maria Chitoroaga.

The general prosecutor Alexandr Stoianoglo announced late in July that he took note of this case from the investigation carried out by CIJM.

During the journalistic investigation, CIJM reporters revealed that the head of the Chisinau Prosecutor's Office based in Ciocana Igor Popa, former deputy general prosecutor during the PDM government, lives in a luxury apartment in the center of Chisinau. The home is not reported in the declaration of assets and interests of the official as well as other goods which he owns.

"The lawyer owns paper divorce and thus he does not report the real estate and cars registered in the name of his ex-wife. Reporters from the Center for Investigative Journalism investigated and found that the couple lives together. The apartment where Igor Popa lives is registered in the name of his ex-wife (in documents), the lawyer Ala Popa, the couple have two sons. The couple divorced in 2016, and the new house was purchased shortly. At the entrances to that neighborhood we easily find out from the gatekeeper that Igor Popa and Ala Popa live together. The man also tells us that the couple have two cars ", wrote the journalists.
