Officials from the Complex Investigations Directorate of the National Investigation Inspectorate, along with prosecutors from the Prosecutor's Office for Combating Organized Crime and Special Cases, raided four companies belonging to a Chisinau businessman on Tuesday. The raids were conducted after tests revealed that the products being sold by the companies were infected with bacteria.

Sources from the Prosecutor's Office have informed the Anticorupție.md portal that the companies in question belong to businessman Anatolie Triteac, who is also the president of the Union of Meat Producers and Importers. Triteac's name appears in an investigation by the Center for Journalistic Investigations  from Moldova (CIJM), along with that of Serghei Iaraalov, a confidant of Vladimir Plahotniuc.

On November 18, 2009, at a government meeting, Viorel Chetraru, then the head of the Center for Combating Economic Crimes and Corruption, made public a list of individuals who were believed to be involved in schemes to monopolize the meat market, commonly referred to as "Mafia meat." Among those named was Sergei Iaralov.

"In the initial phase of the implementation of the monopoly, the members of the Union of Meat Importers and Producers, among them the citizens Anatolie Triteac, Nicolae Curtoglo, promoted by the citizens Vladimir Soroca, Vitalie Burlacu, Serghei Iaralov, and the representatives of the branch ministries who were empowered with the right to regulate this activity - Anatol Spivacenco, former Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry, Iurie Muntean, former Deputy Minister of the Economy," Chetraru stated at the time.
