Lawyers of the controversial businessman Veaceslav Platon filed Monday, September 12, four requests for recusal of the judge Ghenadie Pavliuc, who will examine complaints of businessman against several violations admitted by prosecutor Andrew Baesu. Platon demanded change of the judge, after the magistrate approved a request of the prosecutor to sequester the property of his parents.

The trial held today, that examined the applications for recusal of Veaceslav Platon, lasted more than eight hours. At the request of the lawyer Ion Vazdoaga, the judgment was postponed until tomorrow. "The trial lasted all day. My client did not eat anything since morning. I requested a break until tomorrow", said the defender.

During the time when he was moved from one courtroom to another, Platon answered to several questions of journalists. Thus, he said that he had not yet submitted testimony to the  US investigation, that Plahotniuc and Ilan Sor were his friends, and now, the latter charges him in the case of the stolen billion to escape prison. Asked if he was in danger, Platon replied that three of the witnesses in the case of theft in the banking system are already dead.

On Thursday, September 15, Buiucani Court will examine the request for preventive measure revocation imposed to Platon. He is criminally investigated for money laundering in large proportions, that harmed Banca de Economii with over 800 million lei. Prosecutors concluded that the money obtained by fraud in the form of loans, was transferred to the accounts of several offshore companies in order to disguise the illegal origin and later, some of it was used to extinguish some loans in Moldovan banks.

On July 25, prosecutors announced that they had the businessman’s arrest warrant, and on the same day he was announced internationally wanted. Platon was detained in Kiev by Ukrainian law bodies on July 25 evening.

Before arrest, Platon gave an interview to Anticoruptie.md portal, in which he revealed that he owned several documents and evidence demonstrating Vlad Plahotniuc’s involvement in the theft of banking system. Platon said that he intended to testify on this case before the US law enforcers who are investigating into bank robbery in Moldova.

Businessman's claims were confirmed by a letter from the American company Frontier Solutions addressed to the General Prosecutor of Ukraine. The institution requested to postpone Veaceslav Platon’s extradition to Chisinau until the businessman testifies in the investigation started in the US in connection with the theft of a billion dollars from Moldovan banks.
