The Service for Preventing and Combating Money Laundering confirms that companies controlled by the controversial businessman Veaceslav Platon are involved in the theft of the billion and in the Laundromat scheme. Likewise, companies controlled by Ilan Shor are involved in both schemes. The confirmations are contained in a response received by former MP Inga Grigoriu, chair of the Laundromat Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry.
Veaceslav Platon was acquitted in the theft of the billion case after the prosecutors withdrew their accusation. Ilan Shor was sentenced to 9 years in prison by a primary court, in the case of the theft of the billion, but the sentence was challenged by his lawyers and the process has been dragging on for almost 3 years at the Court of Appeal.
