A group of 67 French media companies, representing approximately 200 publications, has filed a lawsuit against Meta at the Paris Commercial Court, accusing the company of illegal commercial practices. Among the plaintiffs are TF1, France TV, BFM TV, Le Figaro, Lagardère, L’Express, La Dépêche, Libération, Radio France, and Centre France.
The companies allege that Meta maintains its dominance in digital advertising through illegal practices, such as the massive collection of personal data and its use for targeted advertising. The lawsuit is coordinated by the law firms Scott+Scott and Darrois Villey Maillot Brochier, according to Reuters.
Meta has not yet issued an official statement on the matter.
This is the latest legal action against the American tech giant in Europe. In October, Meta is also scheduled to face trial in Spain in a case brought by over 80 media companies, who are seeking €551 million in damages for unfair competition, according to the same source.
