The Investigative Journalists Network, established by the Center for Investigative Journalism (CIJM), brings together professionals from four countries. Over two days in Chișinău, the seminar "Support for Investigative Journalists to Develop Collaboration within Professional Networks at the National and Cross-border Level" serves as a platform for communication and exchange of ideas.
On August 22 and 23, the Investigative Journalists Network, founded by CIJM, is organizing a seminar with the participation of professionals from four countries.
At the opening of the event, Katrin Wenzel, the project manager of GIZ/ACT, the organization that financially supported the seminar, highlighted the importance of the sustainability of such professional networks. She noted that several investigations have already been conducted on this platform, and an effective mentoring exchange has been established.
Cornelia Cozonac, president of the Center for Investigative Journalism, emphasized that network members have benefited not only from mentoring support but also from legal assistance. Furthermore, a series of investigations on sensitive topics—such as agriculture, health, and education—have been carried out. Cozonac expressed confidence that these achievements represent just the beginning and the foundation for future impactful collaborations.
In addition to fostering cohesion within the network and establishing collaborative relationships with similar networks in other countries, the seminar provides an opportunity to learn new tools for database documentation and to access new informational resources regarding public money, agricultural subsidies, and procurement in health and education.
A separate session is dedicated to methods of identifying resources for investigative projects, during which new opportunities for investigative journalists will be announced.
Additionally, well-known investigative journalist Oleg Khomenok will offer a master class on the use of OSINT and SOCMINT tools for fact-checking and information verification in the development of journalistic investigations and investigation planning.
Moreover, members of the network from the Republic of Moldova will have the opportunity to communicate with reporters from Romania, Ukraine, and Bulgaria, with whom they will discuss completed investigations and identify common investigation topics for the future.
