The expansion of cooperation with the European Union in key areas aimed at improving people's quality of life—such as education, vocational training, the labor market, and social policies that enable citizens to realize their potential—was at the heart of the discussions between President Maia Sandu and European Commission Executive Vice-President Roxana Mînzatu, who was on her first official visit to Chișinău.
During the meeting, the head of state highlighted the essential role of EU support in modernizing Moldova’s education system. Priorities include expanding the country’s participation in the Erasmus+ program—not just for university students, but also for school pupils and teachers—developing a network of model schools, and strengthening vocational education with a focus on skills in renewable energy and digital education.
President Maia Sandu reaffirmed that European integration is Moldova’s strategic goal. Progress in the accession process is essential to strengthening people’s confidence in a safe and prosperous future. "The citizens’ desire is clear: to live in a modern, European state with quality schools, decent jobs, and high-standard public services—just like in other EU member states," Sandu stated.
Roxana Mînzatu’s visit comes in the context of the high-level EU–Moldova dialogue on education, labor, and social inclusion policies. The official agenda includes meetings with government representatives as well as visits to EU-supported projects—a high school in Criuleni and a social laundry facility in Zubrești village, Strășeni district—examples of initiatives that bring direct benefits to local communities.
