Romanian Member of the European Parliament Siegfried Mureșan paid an official visit to Chișinău in the context of preparations for the upcoming parliamentary elections this fall, expressing the European Union’s strong support for the security and stability of the Republic of Moldova in the face of external threats.

"During the last presidential elections in the Republic of Moldova and in Romania, the Russian Federation tried, unsuccessfully, to influence the democratic vote of citizens. It is clear they will try again. We will defeat them again," Mureșan stated in a public post.

The European official emphasized that support for Chișinău must continue, especially in the current geopolitical context. "Parliamentary elections will take place in the Republic of Moldova this fall, and the authorities must be prepared to counter any interference from Russia and any other external threats," he added.

During his visit, the MEP met with representatives of key institutions responsible for security, strategic communication, and countering disinformation, including the Center for Strategic Communication and Countering Disinformation, the National Cybersecurity Agency, the Intelligence and Security Service (SIS), as well as members of civil society and the EU’s civilian mission in Moldova.

"Romania and the European Union are safe and stable only if the Republic of Moldova is also safe and stable. We must remain united in countering all external threats," Mureșan added, reaffirming the importance of the strategic partnership between Chișinău and Brussels.

The visit is part of an official European Parliament mission aimed at assessing Moldova’s capacity to safeguard its democratic processes and to identify concrete ways of support ahead of the legislative elections.
