The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, met with the Ambassador of the European Union to Chișinău, Jānis Mažeiks. Among the main topics addressed were the preparations for the first Republic of Moldova–European Union summit, which will take place on the fourth of July in Chișinău. This new format of dialogue, which is set to become a regular one, reflects the deepening of the relationship between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union and marks the transition to a new stage in the European integration path, according to a press release from the Presidency.

At the same time, the two officials discussed foreign interference and attempts to manipulate elections.

The discussions also focused on the current stage of the accession process. The Moldovan authorities, in cooperation with their European counterparts, are currently working on aligning national legislation with European legislation.

An important emphasis was placed on the justice reform, a key commitment of the Republic of Moldova. The President reiterated that the state will continue to strengthen a fair and efficient judicial system for the benefit of the citizens.

In view of the parliamentary elections this autumn, the risk of foreign interference and attempts to manipulate the elections was also addressed. The Head of State emphasized the importance of holding elections free from foreign influence, so that Moldovan citizens can decide their future freely and democratically.
