The Center for Investigative Journalism from Moldova (CIJM) is organizing the second edition of the Forum of Investigative Journalists, a platform for professionals from the country and abroad. Together, we aim to take investigative journalism to a new level by promoting excellence, engagement, and freedom of spirit in the profession. The event is held with the financial support of International Media Support and the Soros Foundation.

The second edition of the Forum of Investigative Journalists will take place on June 3–4 in Chișinău. Conceived as a unique platform for professionals in the field, the event brings together performance and the exchange of advanced experience in one place.

For the first time, the Excellence in Investigative Journalism Competition will be launched, in which an international jury will evaluate professionalism and excellence in investigative journalism in the fields of TV and radio, print media, online platforms, and cross-border journalism.

For the second consecutive year, the Center for Investigative Journalism aims to ensure interaction among professionals in the field of investigative journalism, who will share innovative approaches. On the sidelines of the event, investigative journalists from Moldova, Ukraine, Romania, Bulgaria, Georgia, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan present their experiences in producing impactful journalistic investigations. Confirmed speakers include Laura Ranka (Romania), Atanas Tchobanov (Bulgaria), Oleg Khomenok and Liudmyla Pankratova, Mykola Kostynyan (Ukraine), along with other well-known figures in the field.

The Forum is dedicated to experienced journalists, as well as aspiring professionals who aim to conduct high-quality, professional investigations.

"Through organizing this Forum, we aim to elevate investigative journalism and to reward excellence. For two days, Moldovan journalists will have the opportunity to interact with peers and experts from four countries. They will discuss the specific aspects of conducting investigations, interact with prominent professionals, and exchange data and best practices. We will encourage idea-sharing and the formation of mixed teams that can jointly investigate cross-border topics in the future,"
emphasizes Cornelia Cozonac, president of the Center for Investigative Journalism.

The Forum will include discussion sessions on investigative journalism: challenges, impact, and how to prompt a response from authorities to issues revealed in investigations. Additionally, discussions will address professional solidarity, the value and impact of cross-border projects, the power of professional networks, and the importance of journalists' civic activism in the context of Russia’s hybrid war felt across Europe.

A dedicated space will be allocated for training sessions on new documentation tools in databases, including new information platforms that trace public money in socially sensitive areas, electoral fraud, and the monitoring of the impact of journalistic investigations.

Topics selected by the organizing team will also cover priority areas, given the increasing risks facing journalism: the security of investigative journalists, cross-border collaboration — building trust, creating alliances and networks, investigating disinformation and propaganda, and more.

At the Forum, journalists will benefit from the assistance of cybersecurity experts, who, upon request, will check their computers and provide consultation on digital security measures.

CIJM’s legal expert will offer advice on the protection and safety of journalists, including legal support and access to public-interest information.
