Center for Investigative Journalism in Moldova will organize on Friday, May 27 at 11.00, a new protest in front of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Chisinau to free the Azerbaijani journalist Khadija Ismayilova. This event is part of the campaign "40 protests for Khadija Ismayilova's 40th birthday!", initiated by Sport for Rights.

Attending the protest will be journalists from many media outlets, civic activists and representatives of NGOs. This event will last about 15 minutes and will be broadcast online on portals CIJM www.anticoruptie.md and  www.investigatii.md.

Khadija Ismayilova, independent journalist who collaborated with the Azerbaijani service of Radio Free Europe was imprisoned in December 2014, and in September 2015 she was sentenced to 7.6 years in jail. She is accused of abuse of power and tax evasion. The journalist will mark her 40th anniversary in prison on May 27. On May 3 current year, Khadija Ismayilova has been chosen to receive the 2016 UNESCO/Guillermo Cano World Press Freedom Prize.

A meeting to free the journalist Khadija Ismayilova  was held in Chisinau on May 3, on the World Press Freedom Day. Many NGOs made common cause with the team of the Center for Investigative Journalism. The protest was intimidated by a representative of the Azerbaijani Embassy. The incident happened in April after CIJM displayed at the balcony of its office, located nearby the diplomatic mission,  a banner for releasing the journalist.

Attending this event were representatives of the Independent Press Association, Promo-Lex Association, Transparency International, RISE Moldova, Center for Investigative Journalism etc. The participants in the meeting held placards with the image of the journalist and the banner which CIJM displayed 2 weeks ago and discontented  representatives of the diplomatic mission.
