The Chisinau Court of Appeal has revised the amount of moral damages awarded by the Chisinau Court, Centru headquarters, in a case involving the former policeman Vladislav Corcodel. According to the new decision, Corcodel is to receive compensation of 200,000 lei from the state, as opposed to the previously ordered 500,000 lei, for having been prosecuted in a fabricated case. This decision was rendered at the beginning of October following appeals filed by the Ministry of Justice and the General Prosecutor's Office. In an exclusive interview with the Anticorupţie.md portal, Vladislav Corcodel revealed that the case had been initiated at the behest of the former PDM leader, Vladimir Plahotniuc, who allegedly exerted control over smuggling schemes.

Corcodel filed a lawsuit against the Ministry of Justice, with the General Prosecutor's Office as an intervening party, after the prosecutors admitted in January 2021 that the case initiated in his name was fabricated.

The former policeman had been accused of accepting a 50,000 euro bribe to allegedly cover up a smuggling case. This decision came almost five years after the case was initiated.

Furthermore, the Prosecutor's Office ordered the removal of his properties from seizure and the restitution of his assets, as well as the money seized during house searches. In the removal from criminal investigation order, signed by the prosecutor Vladislav Căruceru, it was stated that the case filed against Corcodel had been fabricated by the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office with the intent to remove him from the investigation of a cross-border cigarette smuggling scheme, in which the Şerif company from Tiraspol and the Tobacco Factory from Chişinău were allegedly involved. According to the document, after Corcodel was removed from the investigations, several individuals involved in the case were taken off criminal prosecution.

Vladislav Corcodel held the position of head of a section within the Fraud Investigation Directorate at that time.
