Victor Sofronii, a journalist for the newspaper “Cuvintul"  in Rezina and Impuls TV channel  in Soldanesti, which he founded, says that  following some programs about the activity of police, heads of Police in the district put pressure on him and on his family. One of the investigations that exasperated the Police was carried out in partnership with the Center for Investigative Journalism, supported by Freedom House.

“The leadership of the Police Inspectorate Soldanesti sought to intimidate journalists to compel them not to report about illegalities in the district, instead of taking measures to straighten the staff and to bring to level those who damaged to police reputation.  Head of Police in Soldanesti,  Cazimir Trocin was admonished by the leadership of the Interior Ministry, which is why he decided to  call up the staff to "destroy clan Sofronii", his words", says the journalist.

Victor Sofronii claims that, by an ordinance dated 28 September, Cazimir Trocin ordered the lifting of accounting documents from the enterprise "Apa -Soldanesti" managed by Valentin Sofronii journalist’s brother. Police had claimed that he did so  based on the evidence collected" about the misappropriation of financial means by purchasing and using petrol contrary to destination".  The administration of the enterprise "Regia Apa- Soldanesti" is accused of "misappropriation, theft of belongings in small proportions from the owner, embezzlement and abuse of power, violation of norms for establishing and maintaining accounting ".

"The operation was carried out without the authorization of the judge, which made the company management to lodge a complaint to the Prosecutor’s office of district Soldanesti. After that, the police detained ex-engineer of enterprise "Regia Apa- Soldanesti” on grounds that he intended to leave the country to dodge responsibility. In fact, the engineer resigned because he found another better paid job in Chisinau and he was supposed to start working on October 26. According to the engineer’s wife, he was "asked" by the investigator to testify that the petrol and diesel that he had stolen, he sold it, and the money was given to director Valentin Sofronii ", said the journalist. He claims that by these actions the police try to gain the loyalty of local media.

Cazimir Trocin rejects the allegations. "What kind of pressure? All of them are free. Checks from "Apa- Soldanesti” started following a complaint which was addressed to Interior Minister Alexandru Jizdan. A criminal case was sent to the prosecution. What connections are there?” commented Head of Police Inspectorate Soldanesti.

The investigation conducted in partnership with the Center for Investigative Journalism reveals that many heads of divisions of the Police Inspectorate Soldanesti continue to work after they have allegedly extorted thousands of Euros. In the last decade, ten policemen from the district were accused of passive corruption. National Anti-Corruption Center informed journalists from Impuls TV that most criminal cases were sent to court, but still no reaction.
