Nicușor Dan and Maia Sandu are participating on Wednesday, June 11, in the Ukraine – South-East Europe Summit, held in Odesa. The event takes place one day after a strong wave of drone and missile attacks launched by Russia on the city, which killed one person and injured at least four.

The regional summit of South-East European solidarity with Ukraine, held in Odesa, raises security concerns after the city was targeted by a massive drone and missile attack from Russian forces.

The two heads of state were invited by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to the fourth edition of the Ukraine – South-East Europe Summit. The event is organized for the first time in Ukraine; previous editions were hosted by Greece, Albania, and Croatia.

The summit will also be attended by the President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, alongside the Prime Ministers of Croatia, Andrej Plenković, and Greece, Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

During his visit to Chișinău, Nicușor Dan said he will discuss technical aspects with Ukrainian officials regarding the aid Romania can offer.

According to antena3.ro, the leaders will discuss support for Ukraine, sanctions imposed on Russia, as well as the status of peace negotiations between Ukraine and Russia.

The Ukraine – South-East Europe format was launched in 2023 in the context of Russia’s aggressive war against Ukraine as a regional platform to support Ukraine.
