After the court ruling in the case of Alexandr Nesterovschi — who is reportedly hiding in the Transnistrian region to avoid serving his sentence — new details from the case file have come to light. During the trial, the MP affiliated with Ilan Șor refused to answer at least three questions from prosecutors. One of them concerned an incident during a search, when Nesterovschi called his sister and allegedly asked her to swallow a flash drive. Sources from the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office confirmed the incident to the portal Anticoruptie.md, but clarified that the flash drive was never found in the sister’s home. She is a municipal councilor in Bălți. When asked what kind of data was on the device he wanted to destroy, the convicted MP refused to give any details. This is not the first case of attempted destruction of evidence in such a manner. In 2022, the brother-in-law of former President Igor Dodon attempted to swallow a receipt that included information about transactions totaling more than 700,000 euros.
Nesterovschi also refused to confirm that he knew the couriers who had purchased his plane tickets to Tel Aviv, where he met with Ilan Șor.
"Between March 2023 and September 21, 2023, Alexandr Nesterovschi, residing mainly in the Republic of Moldova and also in Israel, acted with direct intent, fully aware of his actions and their consequences, and illegally accepted services from an organized criminal group led by Ilan Șor. These services included several international flights: Bucharest to Tel Aviv on March 18 (RO153), Tel Aviv to Iași on March 21 (W63690), Bucharest to Tel Aviv on March 27 (W63257), return on March 30 (LY573), Bucharest to Tel Aviv on May 17 (LY574), Turkey to Romania on May 19 (W4300), Bucharest to Tel Aviv on June 18 via Athens (A3961), return to Bucharest on June 20 (LY571), Chișinău to Tel Aviv on September 9 via Istanbul (TK270), and return on September 10 (TK269). In total, 10 flights to and from Israel,” prosecutors state.
On four of these trips, Nesterovschi used a diplomatic passport issued due to his status as a Member of Parliament, even though he had not been officially delegated for service abroad.
Another case of attempted evidence destruction occurred during searches at the home of former President Igor Dodon.
The receipt that Petru Merineanu — Dodon’s brother-in-law — tried to swallow during a search referred to the purchase of three properties and a boat station (including the boats), with a total value of 700,000 euros, in the village of Molovata, Dubăsari district. Prosecutors believe the assets were purchased with money belonging to the former head of state and were in fact the property of the Dodon family.
Merineanu, on the other hand, claimed that he had invested money earned in Russia into a business in his home village.
