Prosecutor General Dumitru Robu submitted nine requests to the Parliament requesting to lift the immunity of the fugitive deputy Ilan Shor, his detention, arrest, search and prosecution being accused based on several articles of the Criminal Code of Moldova.
Ilan Shor is accused of false statements, fraud, money laundering, embezzlement of foreign assets, abuse of power and abuse of office, creation, and leadership of an organized criminal group. According to the interim prosecutor general, after lifting the immunity, the General Prosecutor's Office will be able to advance in the criminal investigation, seizure of assets, and even may request the extradition of Ilan Shor.
The first four accusations, false statements, fraud, money laundering, and the creation and leadership of an organized criminal group were supported by the majority of MPs. The deputies are to examine and vote on the other five requests of the interim general prosecutor, which also aim at lifting the parliamentary immunity of the deputy Ilan Shor.
