Former PM of the Republic of Moldova Vlad Filat was detained for 72 hours over passive corruption and influence peddling, reports the National Anti-corruption Center (CNA). This decision was taken after Chief Prosecutor Corneliu Gurin asked parliament to strip Filat of his immunity from prosecution as a lawmaker.
Vlad Filat was arrested after he had been formally taken in for questioning. According to a notification filed by Corneliu Gurin in Parliament, the politician is charged of direct involvement in the withdrawal of money from the banking system. The Head of the General Prosecutor’s Office said that the prosecutors had irrefutable evidence to establish guilt of chairman of PLDM.
