Paramilitary group in Balti, whose members were arrested Wednesday, November 25, had targeted several strategic institutions of the state. "We prevented a possible massacre", said Gheorghe Cavcaliuc, head of the General Police Inspectorate in a press conference. According to him, the group initially intended to take over state institutions in Balti and then take possession of northern Moldova and then to arrive in Chisinau.

"The group has information about the actions of the police. During the protests in Chisinau, scheduled for next Sunday, when police in Balti maintain public order, they intended to attack the military unit in Balti, to arm themselves. The next target was the investigation unit in Balti to complete the group. They also planned to attack some economic units to get financial means", said head of IGP.

According to Cavcaliuc, the group from Balti targeted law institutions and the houses of some heads of these institutions. The head from IGP did not tell which 5 five strategic institutions in Chisinau were supposed to be attacked by members of the group.

Also, realitatea.md publishes video images of IGP showing 6 institutions, target of the group in Balti. It is about the National Philharmonic ”Serghei Lunchevici”, Shop ”UNIC”, National Museum of History of Moldova, the Palace of the Republic, National Opera and Ballet Theatre ”Maria Biesu” and a branch of ”Moldova Agroindbank” on bd. Ștefan cel Mare, wrote  realitatea.md. This list is published by PRO TV that makes reference to a map found during the arrest of the paramilitary group.

Cavcaliuc said that in all there were arrested 13 persons: 12 men and a woman, aged between 24 and 46, 6 of them, including the leader of the group were previously condemned for serious crimes. Most of them have general education and are not employed, others have incomplete general education. Two of them work for the state enterprise "Calea Ferata".  „Each member of the group had their own strictly determined role. They usually met on the territory of schools. As a result of the searches at homes and in cars of the suspects, there were detected ammunitions, arms, drugs, money and detailed maps of municipality Balti and  Chisinau”, said the head of IGP.

The police targeted this group 2 months ago and a member of the police was involved for documentation. The investigators said that the suspected intended to create a so-called state “New Russia”. A criminal case was started for terrorism, which is applied the maximum punishment- life imprisonment.

Former deputy commissioner of municipality Chisinau, Vladimir Coval said in a TV program that the arrests in Balti is not a reason of panic. "There is a presumption of innocence. Gheorghe Cavcaliuc said previously that he had found ammunition lot in Chisinau, on Columna Street. This issue was widely publicized, the population was  panicked and then nothing was reported about this case", concluded Coval.
