Platon’s Sister Sentenced to 10 Years in Prison in the Laundromat Case

Elena Platon, the sister of the controversial businessman Veaceslav Platon, investigated in the Laundromat case, was sentenced to 10 years in prison in Russia for involvement in laundering more than 126 billion rubles in Russia. 

According to the representative of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, from 2013 to 2014, Elena Platon was an active member of the international criminal community, led by her brother Veaceslav Platon and the well-known politician and businessman Vladimir Plahotniuc from Moldova. Together with the actual owners of Russian banks, Alexander Grigoriev and Oleg Kuzmin, as well as other accomplices, Elena Platon made an illegal withdrawal from the Russian Federation to foreign states of more than 126 billion rubles.

In July 2019, Elena Platon pleaded guilty to participating in the laundering of a billion dollars from the Russian Federation through the famous Laundromat scheme. At the same time, she allegedly testified against other people, members of organized criminal groups.
