Businessman Veaceslav Platon accused in bank fraud case, was detained by Ukrainian prosecutors, shortly after the Moldovan authorities issued a warrant of arrest and he was declared internationally wanted.  The Prosecutor’s Office in Ukraine reports in a press release, without giving names, that the detained person owns both the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova, as well as of the Russian Federation and is prosecuted in Moldova for money laundering and fraud in the banking system. Veaceslav Platon would be extradited to the Moldovan prosecutors.

„Also, this person is investigated for possible involvement in committing offences on the territory of Ukraine”, reports the press release.

Anti-corruption prosecutor Viorel Morari said Monday, July 25 at a briefing that Platon would have benefited from bad loans amounting to 800 million lei from BEM. "A group of legal entities managed by interposed individuals upon the order of Veaceslav Platon, took bad loans from a commercial bank. Subsequently, the loans were extinguished by the loans obtained from BEM. Now, Veaceslav Platon is charged for unjustified absence from the trial of the defendant", said Viorel Morari. Also, 2 decision makers from Moldindconbank were detained on suspicion that they acted upon the order of Veaceslav Platon.

On the same day, the businessman offered an interview for portal anticoruptie.md. „ Everyone knows that Plahotniuc is behind the theft of the billion. I was ready to give depositions over this case to external law enforcement bodies. I own data about how and why the theft happened. I wanted to officially declare this information to investigative bodies from other countries and I will do it. Prosecutors’ actions now aim to prevent and impede my testimony. Do you see how quick the prosecutors were?  Nobody invited me to Prosecutor’s Office; nobody summoned me or phoned me.  They got a court order that bans me to go abroad and speak to European prosecutors and investigative bodies”, said Veaceslav Platon.
