Former Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev decided to try his luck in the presidential election this year. Tarlev came today at the Central Election Commission accompanied by several colleagues. He said that he would run independently, but he has the support of "a long list" of NGOs specialized in business, culture and medicine.

"I focused on my activities a period of time. You know that I am member of an international organization comprising 30 countries. I have never said that I renounce the political life or activities related to the Republic of Moldova", said Tarlev to journalists.

Vasile Tarlev was the longest-serving Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova. He held this position from 2001 to 2008. During this period, the official was accused of performing many unjustified political orders from the then president of the Republic of Moldova, Vladimir Voronin.

The former official was accused earlier that the factory “Bucuria” was at risk of bankruptcy in the period when he served as director of the company.

Also, controversial businessman Veaceslav Platon, investigated for money laundering intended to register the initiative group on Friday, September 9.The intention to submit the documents was transmitted to CEC representatives yesterday. Platon was supposed to go to the Central Election Commission escorted by police. The administration of the Prison No. 13, where Platon was arrested, announced this morning the termination of the activity of the institution, "for efficient disinfection and disinfestation works".

Ana Ursachi, one of the lawyers of Platon thinks it is just a trick by which they try to prevent Platon’s participation in elections. "Acts for registration of the initiative group have already been submitted. Mr. Platon was supposed just to go to CEC to sign them. Apparently, this will not be possible", said Ursachi for Anticoruptie.md portal.

Today is deadline for submitting documents for registration of initiative groups for presidential elections from October 30, 2016.

Former prime minister Ion Sturza did not hesitate to criticize in a Facebook posting, the large number of candidates in elections. “Ridiculous and disgusting! Is it the only strategy of the holding?  But together with the dead in cemeteries "ready" to vote, can be helpful. Dear "candidates", if you have a bit of dignity and honor, give up”, said Sturza.
