The Center for Investigative Journalism from the Republic of Moldova (CIJM) has received a diploma of appreciation from GIZ Moldova for its contribution to exposing corruption schemes and for helping build a network of investigative journalists. This recognition comes at the conclusion of a joint project during which more than ten investigations were carried out, exposing abuses committed by decision-makers. The project also saw the launch of the Summer School – a non-conformist educational initiative about the challenges of investigative journalism and a valuable opportunity to strengthen solidarity among journalists.

The closing event marked the end of a grand and ambitious anti-corruption project, during which GIZ Moldova supported investigative journalism and promoted the idea of press solidarity, said CIJM President Cornelia Cozonac.

“The results of the Center for Investigative Journalism were acknowledged by GIZ Moldova at the final event of a major anti-corruption project. We spoke about investigative journalism, the building of a network of investigative journalists, mentoring in conducting investigations on corruption topics by reporters from all regions of Moldova. We also highlighted the improved communication between investigative journalists and anti-corruption institutions achieved during this project.
Moreover, we took the initiative to organize, in 2024, the first Investigative Journalists' Forum and the first edition of awards for investigative reporting. As a sign of continuity of what was started with GIZ Moldova's support, this year we went further with the second edition of the Forum, which became a regional event, and the awards were elevated to a new level – excellence in investigative journalism,” stated Cozonac.

As part of the project, which was financially supported by GIZ Moldova, the Center for Investigative Journalism founded the Network of Investigative Journalists. Members received guidance from mentors, established better relationships with anti-corruption institutions, and benefited from the support of an experienced legal expert.

The Summer School was also launched – a platform where professionals from various fields shared their experience, while newcomers to the profession learned how to face the challenges of investigative journalism.
