Switzerland joined the states that imposed sanctions against five people involved in the attempts to destabilize the situation in the Republic of Moldova. It is about Ilan Shor, Marina Tauber, Vlad Plahotniuc, Igor Chaika and Gheorghe Cavcaliuc. The measure was imposed at the request of the Chisinau authorities and will come into effect on June 28 at 6:00 p.m. Anticoruptie.md revealed how, under the pretext of charity or sports actions, the Kremlin's liaison agents promote and carry out campaigns with a strong ideological tone, starting with the promotion of the "Saint George" ribbon and ending with derogatory messages addressed to those who plead for the rapprochement by the European Union. The INTERLOPERS AND... PHILANTHROPISTS investigation reconstructs the propaganda activities organized by Grigore Caramalac, the president of the IFAVIS Foundation, who is on the list of sanctions.

"Switzerland thus accedes to the EU sanctions, at the request of Moldova, due to the intensification of destabilizing actions in the country since the beginning of Russia's military aggression against Ukraine," states the decision of the Swiss Federal Council.

On May 30, the EU Council voted on the decision to sanction five individuals. They are accused of intending to destabilize the situation in the Republic of Moldova.

The sanctions imposed by the EU, at the request of the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, aim to freeze the funds held by these individuals in the EU and impose travel bans.

1. Ilan Shor: He is accused of illegally financing political parties in Moldova, inciting violence against the democratic opposition, intimidating state authorities, and organizing training camps to provoke violent actions in street protests. He has been definitively convicted of corruption and has fled to Israel, where he coordinates the activities of his party.

2. Igor Chaika: He is a Russian businessman with influence in Chisinau, involved in channeling money to the assets of Russian secret services in Moldova to facilitate actions aimed at destabilizing the country.

3. Gheorghe Cavcaliuc: Former deputy head of the General Police Inspectorate and president of the Home Building Europe Party, he is responsible for destabilizing acts and involvement in recent violent protests in Moldova. He is also involved in attempts to overthrow the democratically elected government by creating a shadow government.

4. Marina Tauber: She is the vice-president of the Shor Party and Ilan Shor's right-hand person. She has contributed significantly to the violent protests and has been one of the main organizers. She was invited to a prime-time show on the television station Romania TV, founded by Sebastian Ghiță, in February.

5. Vladimir Plahotniuc: He is a fugitive and former president of the Democratic Party of Moldova. He is the subject of numerous criminal proceedings related to the embezzlement of Moldovan state funds and their illegal transfer out of the country. Despite not holding any official position, Plahotniuc has continued to negatively influence politics in Moldova.

In addition to these five individuals, two others were also sanctioned based on the sanctions regime regarding Ukraine but for actions with a destabilizing effect in Moldova:

1. Aleksandr Kalinin: The leader of the Party of Regions in Moldova, he has consistently supported actions that threaten the territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence of Ukraine by supporting Russia's military forces and promoting symbols of the invasion.

2, Grigore Caramalac: He is the president of the IFAVIS Foundation and is responsible for organizing patriotic events in the occupied territories of eastern Ukraine with the support of the occupation authorities.

President Maia Sandu welcomed the EU's decision and emphasized that these individuals will not be able to freely move within the EU, and their money and assets will be confiscated.
