The controversial businessman Veaceslav Platon would have paid the suspended General Prosecutor, Alexandru Stoianoglo, over 63 million lei. In exchange, Stoianoglo was supposed to get Platon out of prison and exempt him from a prosecution case in which he was irrevocably sentenced to 18 years in prison. The figure was made public in a press release from the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office. Also, APO announced that another case, in which Stoianoglo is accused of abuse of office, passive corruption, and false statements, was sent to court.

The prosecutors claim that as a result of the release from detention of Veaceslav Platon and the illegal renunciation of the charges, the national public budget was harmed for 869,224,839.76 lei.

Stoianoglo is also accused of not reporting in the declaration of assets that his wife, starting from 05.01.2021, is the beneficiary of a commercial company in Ukraine, which was affiliated with Platon. The businessman allegedly gave up his share in favor of Stoianoglo's wife, in exchange for the promise that he would be released from prison.

Along with Stoianoglo, prosecutors Dumitru Răileanu and Elena Ceruţă will also appear on the dock, accused of involvement in the process of Platon's illegal release.

There are three criminal files against the suspended General Prosecutor under the consideration of Chisinau Court. At the same time, the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office continues its investigations in another file, in which Stoianoglo is accused of illicit enrichment. Under prosecutors’ examination is also the file in which Stoianoglo is charged with the abuse of office that took place during the period when he was in the position of president of the National Security, Defense, and Public Order Commission of the Parliament.

Alexandr Stoianoglo pleads not guilty in all cases.
