The cameraman of the Anticoruptie Portal.md, Anatol Matasaru, was prevented on Thursday from entering the Chisinau court based in Ciocana where the file of the former president Igor Dodon is being examined. Anatol Matasaru is an employee of the Center for Investigative Journalism and identified himself, but the carabinieri who provide security forbade him to enter while other journalists from other media institutions had access to the court. The incident was photographed by journalist Nadezhda Roscovanu.
The magistrates from the Chisinau Court based in Ciocana are examining the prosecutors' approach regarding the 30-day arrest warrant against the former President of the Republic of Moldova, Igor Dodon.
Journalists who had access to the court say they heard that Socialist MP Grigore Novac instructed the police not to allow Anatol Matasaru to the trial. In front of the camera, Novac denied that he ordered it.
The president of the Center for Investigative Journalism Cornelia Cozonac said that it is a serious violation of the law and of the journalist's rights: “It is an abuse on behalf of the representatives of the state. In this case, the carabineers prevented the cameraman of the Anticoruptie.md portal from doing his job as a journalist. Anatol Matasaru is an employee of the Center for Investigative Journalism. He films, documents and broadcasts on the spot. He has a journalist's card and has identified himself in front of the carabinieers. In the morning, Anatol Matasaru was seconded to film at the Chisinau Court based in Ciocana. This ban is serious because other journalists were allowed access and only Anatol Matasaru was denied access to a court, to a public trial".
"The cameraman was prevented from doing his journalistic work, and this action is subject to criminal prosecution. The lawyers of the Center for Investigative Journalism will take the necessary steps in this regard ", said the president of CIJM.
Reporters from the Center for Investigative Journalism have conducted several journalistic investigations since 2008 in which they revealed corruption and abuse schemes targeting the former president, Igor Dodon, and other Socialist deputies.
