The former director general of the National Anticorruption Center (CNA), Bogdan Zumbreanu, has been given another opportunity to seek justice after his challenge to the Parliament's decision to dismiss him was rejected by both the first instance court and the Chisinau Court of Appeal.

The Civil, Commercial, and Litigation Administrative Board of the Chisinau Court of Appeal, consisting of President Ghenadie Mîra and Judges Grigore Dașchevici and Angela Bostan, upheld the decision of the lower court, ruling that Zumbreanu's request was without merit

"The arguments presented in the appeal request lack objective substance, and the lower court, based on the totality of the evidence presented, resolved the case under all factual and legal aspects. As a result, the issued decision is both legal and well-founded," stated the court of appeal.

The decision is enforceable from the moment it is issued and can be appealed to the Supreme Court of Justice.

Bogdan Zumbreanu filed a lawsuit against the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova in March 2020. The former head of the CNA requested the annulment of the unfavorable individual administrative act, specifically Parliament Decision No. 43 of June 8, 2019, which revoked him from office. He claimed that his appointment was not carried out in accordance with legal provisions.

Bogdan Zumbreanu told Anticoruptie.md that he challenged both the reasoning and procedure behind his dismissal. "The reason for my dismissal was based on an informative note by some lawyers claiming that I was guilty of condemning the Republic of Moldova at the ECHR. However, my name is not even mentioned in any decision by the European court. The files I was involved in were lost due to procedural mistakes admitted by other officials," said the former CNA director.

Zumbreanu was dismissed on June 8, 2019 by a parliamentary majority comprised of the ACUM bloc and the PSRM, on the grounds that he lacked an impeccable reputation at the time of his appointment.
