The Republic of Moldova expresses "a strong protest" to the Russian Federation against the bombings over the energy infrastructure in Ukraine, because of which all the localities in Moldova remained without electricity for several hours on Wednesday. In this regard, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Moldova, Nicu Popescu, instructed on Wednesday afternoon the urgent summoning of the Russian ambassador to Chisinau.

"Today, when we have massive power outages throughout the country, including  the capital Chisinau, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Nicu Popescu urgently instructed the summoning of the Russian Ambassador to Moldova at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in order to express Moldova’s protest against the bombardment of targets from the Ukrainian civilian infrastructure, which triggered penury of electricity, says press release of the Ministry.

The Ministry delivered emergency instructions to the heads of the Moldovan diplomatic missions, in order to inform the partners about the major impact of this situation. The Chisinau diplomacy points out that Moldova remains on the side of the free world and this war must be stopped as soon as possible,’’   states the quoted source.

The Republic of Moldova remained in total darkness on Wednesday afternoon, as a result of the Russian bombings over the energy system in Ukraine. Due to the lack of electricity, some mobile and internet networks also went down. The reconnection started gradually after 1-3 hours in the capital, and later in other localities. In the neighboring country of Ukraine, telegram channels announce a lack of electricity in all regions until Thursday.

Massive interruptions of electric energy supply were registered all over Moldova, in the wake of today’s bombardment by Russia against the Ukrainian energy system. A similar situation took place on 15 November, when there were also disconnections following Russian bombardments against the Ukrainian energy system.

The Russian Federation, which has been waging a 273-day war of aggression in Ukraine, stepped up its missile attacks on energy infrastructure in several Ukrainian regions on Wednesday after the European Parliament overwhelmingly adopted a resolution declaring Russia as a state sponsor of terrorism and asked the EU to prepare the ninth package of sanctions against Moscow.
